In response to requests from UM students we can design a program that is based on your individual needs to help you tackle your course work.
The program is flexible and designed with your particular needs and goals in mind. A typical program meets 4-6 hours over the course of the semester. Working with a professional speech-language pathologist (SLP), you identify target areas that may be difficult for you as you proceed through the term. Examples of areas to work on include test taking, memory, writing, reading comprehension, notetaking, organizational skills – whatever you need.
Sample individual curriculum
A former UM student worked with SLP Karen Wasco on improving his test taking skills. Over the course of the semester he attended 5 sessions totaling 7 hours that were broken down as follows:
- 1st Session at the start of the semester (1 Hour) – Re-learn how to best study for exams - how you study currently, what type of test questions you usually have, etc.
- 2nd Session a few weeks after the 1st session (1 Hour) – Check in to see how the studying is going, making sure that you are staying on top of things and studying “smart.”
- 3rd Session 1 week or so before midterm exams (2 Hours) – Help prepare for midterms
- 4th Session after midterms (1 Hour) – Another session to check in to see how things are going for you
- 5th Session 1 week before finals (2 Hours) – Help prepare for finals.
