The newest form of electronic textbooks is getting smarter.

Instead of just allowing you to read the text from your tablet, a new app called Inquire will allow you to ask questions and explore topics in further detail—all by synthesizing material straight from the textbook!

Though Inquire is still a work in progress, as it’s in the trial stages, the AI-based computer system in the app will allow students to interact directly with the text, providing pop-up definitions in the text and presenting extra charts and tables with information to help students make sense of the reading.

The extensive programming that goes into Inquire makes the project very tedious, but the developers are working on finishing the programming for Campbell Biology, the text for which Inquire was originally made.
