Growing up in Manchester in the 1970s, there were few resources and tools available for children with dyslexia. Gallagher had a tough childhood and developed a stammer early on, making school that much more difficult for him. As a teenager he was often in trouble with the law and was constantly in and out of school. However, it was during a period out of school where he picked up a guitar for the first time. From that moment, nothing else mattered to Gallager but his music. In 1990, his younger brother Liam invited him to join his band, where he soon became the sole songwriter. His dyslexia made this task a challenge, as he said in a 1996 Q interview [2], “Sometimes I give lyrics to Liam and the two key words of the sentence will be missing.” His career in Oasis was marked by many ups and downs with frequent disputes with his brother, causing him to eventually depart from the band in 2009. He is now a solo artist, but still writes incredible lyrics despite challenges from his dyslexic mind.
