The newest form of electronic textbooks is getting smarter.

Instead of just allowing you to read the text from your tablet, a new app called Inquire [1] will allow you to ask questions and explore topics in further detail—all by synthesizing material straight from the textbook!

Though Inquire is still a work in progress, as it’s in the trial stages, the AI-based computer system in the app will allow students to interact directly with the text, providing pop-up definitions in the text and presenting extra charts and tables with information to help students make sense of the reading.

The extensive programming [3] that goes into Inquire makes the project very tedious, but the developers are working on finishing the programming for Campbell Biology, the text for which Inquire was originally made.
