Amber Lee Dodd incorporates her own childhood struggles with dyslexia into her popular children’s books.

Early in her education, Amber realized that she was different from her classmates, as she struggled to read even in 4th grade, leading her to continually fail tests. At that time, she was not diagnosed and lacked support. Her motivation to read and to learn were incredibly low. But one day, while doing a spoken story exercise in class, Amber discovered her gift of imaginative storytelling. A skill that she developed into her writing career.

Now, Amber Lee Dodd is a well known children’s author and playwright, who uses her characters to teach her audience that they are not struggling on their own. Her newest book Lighting Chase Me Home, tells the story of a young heroine with dyslexia growing up in a magical world. Amber also teaches creative writing workshops and encourages schools to fund art programs.
