It is no secret that Steven Naismith, soccer player in the Barclays Premier League, has an attitude of anticipation, preparation, and endurance. This can be seen clearly on the soccer field where Naismith excels, as well as in his personal life.
School life was hard for Naismith, who was diagnosed with dyslexia, and it came with a series of tough lessons that perpetuated Naismith’s belief that he might not make it. Luckily, Naismith used his strong work ethic to develop strategies to cope with his dyslexia. He learned to practice reading passages and was sure to always be ahead so he wouldn’t get caught behind his classmates.
Naismith believes that his dyslexia reinforces the reality that he always has to work hard. This can easily be seen on the soccer field where Naismith continues to work hard and improve. He knows that there is no guarantee that he’ll get an offer to play in the next game, so he is always working to improve his skills.
Naismith currently works with Dyslexia Scotland and hopes to set up a charitable fund when he retires.
