Musician Carly Simon describes the positive and creative parts of her dyslexia

While she is most known as a Grammy Award-winning musician, many are unaware that Carly Simon has struggled with dyslexia. Growing up, she recalls being made fun of by her peers. Simon has two children who have been diagnosed with dyslexia. She remembers her daughter, Sally’s frustration when she struggled to read. Sally’s husband, Dean Bragonier, also struggles with dyslexia which led him to start a nonprofit called NoticeAbility, which aims to provide educational enrichment tools to students with dyslexia.

Overall, Simon believes her dyslexia has a direct influence on her ability to make music. She and her family aim to show that dyslexia can be a catalyst for new ways of problem-solving that can aid in success and creativity.
