During the Covid-19 lockdown, Dawn Crowle, who was diagnosed with dyslexia as a teenager, started to notice just how much her daughter, Sophie, who was nine at the time, was struggling with school work. Sophie had been diagnosed with dyslexia at age seven. Dawn Crowle started to look for children’s books that would help Sophie understand better the implications of her diagnosis but was frustrated with the selection. This frustration led Dawn to start writing a book with her friend Rhiannon Jones, which would ultimately be titled Sophie’s Superpower. The book is about a girl who struggles to read and after being diagnosed with dyslexia is able to see the positive sides, not just the challenges, of dyslexia. With this insight, our heroine is better able to work through the challenges.
