Expanding Access to Dyslexia Training in San Antonio

A San Antonio nonprofit is expanding opportunities for educators to receive specialized training in dyslexia intervention.

Celebrate Dyslexia is making it easier for teachers and other professionals to gain the specialized skills needed to support students with dyslexia. The nonprofit’s training program recently received independent course approval from the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA), opening new pathways for participants to earn professional credentials and college credit toward related graduate degrees.

The organization is also working with San Antonio-area universities and public schools to bring dyslexia training into teacher preparation programs. An existing agreement with the University of Texas at San Antonio is part of a broader effort to increase the number of educators prepared to recognize dyslexia and provide effective, evidence-based reading intervention.

The expansion comes as communities continue to face a shortage of trained dyslexia specialists. Celebrate Dyslexia is also helping develop open-source dyslexia therapy coursework intended to give future teachers greater experience with systematic, explicit reading instruction.
