Can AI Help Us Detect Dyslexia and Dysgraphia?

A new study looks into how AI could be trained to help screen children for dyslexia and dysgraphia based on their handwriting and spelling. Currently, it is very costly and time consuming to get children diagnosed with dyslexia and dysgraphia, and the tests often focus on one condition at a time. If AI can be properly trained to detect signs of dyslexia and dysgraphia in handwriting and spelling, it could help children receive diagnoses and then get the help they need. This new research builds upon previous research that the U.S Postal Service uses to help sort mail by recognizing people’s writing and other research that uses AI for helping catch dysgraphia.
