A new scientific focus on executive functioning is helping to advance our understanding of both children and adults and their unique profile of strengths and weaknesses. But what exactly is executive functioning?

The executive functions are a range of processes that have to do with your ability to achieve a goal. This involves a variety of skills including your ability to move freely from one situation to another, control your emotions, manage current and future tasks, and monitor your own performance, among others.

In order to understand a person and his or her learning style, it is necessary to look at which executive skills are problematic and to what degree.
