Tired man under mental pressure while reading book in library.

This podcast from the New York Public Radio follows one student closely on his struggle to gain appropriate instruction for dyslexia in NYC.

For years, NYC schools have been relying on reading methods that have been disproven by research. Teachers have been told not to let families know when they suspect a student may have dyslexia, and families of children who do receive a diagnosis often have to pay hefty legal fees in order to sue the school district in order to send their child to a private school. Host Jessica Gould outlines these struggles within the podcast by following a student with dyslexia and his grandmother as they navigate their way through NYC’s education system.
