The National Collaborative on Workforce and Disability (NCWD) for Youth offers The 411 on Disability Disclosure: A Workbook for Youth with Disabilities. This 85-page guide is a repository of helpful information on self-advocacy for dyslexic youth entering post-secondary institutions or vocational training. It outlines the legal rights and responsibilities of individuals with dyslexia and learning disabilities, and provides a framework for weighting the advantages and disadvantages of disclosing a disability in the workplace or college environment. It also gives dyslexics a template for creating a personalized “script” they can use to make friends, colleagues, and work supervisors aware of their weaknesses, strengths, and need for accommodations.
